New York State Bird Name: Eastern Bluebird Binomial Name: Sialia sialis Adopted: Legislation of 1970 The Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis) is a medium-sized thrush commonly found in open woodlands, farmlands and orchards east of the Rockies, southern Canada to the Gulf States and southeastern Arizona to Nicaragua. Adults of the species have a white belly. Adult male Eastern Bluebirds are bright blue on top with a reddish brown throat and breast.
