Name: Brown Pelican
Binomial Name: Pelecanus occidentalis
Adopted: Legislation of 1966

The Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is the smallest member of the pelican family at 42-54 inches in length.

The Brown Pelican has an enormous orange bill and is distinguished from the American White Pelican by its brown body and its habit of diving for fish from the air, as opposed to co-operative fishing from the surface.
