October 10-12, Trailing of the Sheep Festival
Events include a variety of cultural activities and programs relating to the history of sheep ranching in the Wood River Valley. Festivities begin with wool carding demonstrations, spinning and weaving, shearing, herding sheep with stock dogs, storytelling, making sheepherder bread, traditional Basque lamb dinner, music and dancing. All of the activities serve as a prelude to the popular Monday morning "trailing" when hundreds of sheep move down Main Street and south through the valley alongside Highway 75. December 31, Boise 2000 Celebration
Boise, Idaho will celebrate the coming of the Millennium by throwing a huge city-wide celebration that begins on December 31 and officially ends on January 1. Events include: Historical Scavenger Hunt, Ice Carving Exhibition, Y2K Fun Run, indoor and outdoor theme and entertainment stages, parade floats with themes of the decades, Arts by Starlight, Children's Celebration, People's Procession, Millennium Resolution Wall and Arts for Adults. The evening's events will be capped off with a Nightglow Countdown to the Millennium featuring 60 hot air balloons and a Midnight Fireworks Show behind Idaho's capitol building.
